Germany has recorded its third malaria death, linked to Frankfurt Airport. Two new cases were reported this week in the Schwanheim district, near the airport. Two airport workers had already died in July and August. The new cases have no travel history to endemic areas nor do they work at the airport, and are attributed to an infected Anopheles mosquito that arrived by plane. Malaria mosquitoes can fly up to 10 km, and the infections occurred about 5 km from the airport. Mosquito traps have been set up at the airport for analysis.
