Sweden has registered 448 cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) as of September 14 this year, the highest figure for the same period in history. In 2023, registered 392 infections by the same date. In the last decade, cases have increased by 6% annually. Most infected individuals do not develop symptoms, but between 10% and 30% experience flu-like symptoms, and 20-30% of these can develop a second phase with brain involvement. Factors such as the number of ticks, host animals, and climatic conditions influence the incidence. Vaccination is recommended in risk areas.
