A suspected waterborne illness event has been reported in Ghatlodia, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, associated with contamination of the drinking water supply with sewage.
At least 50 people became ill, presenting with diarrhea and vomiting. Seven individuals remained hospitalized as of June 4, 2026. The contamination resulted from a break in the water and drainage pipes on May 30, 2026. Local reports suggest a larger disease burden, with up to 500–600 residents affected in one apartment complex.
Response measures, including pipe repairs, water sampling, and distribution of drinking water via tanker trucks, have been implemented. No deaths have been reported.
