Catastrophic flooding in Nepal, which began on August 26, 2026, has affected several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East and West, Gorkha, and Tanahun. 1,344 bodies have been recovered, and 5,083 people are missing, including 600 foreigners. Contamination of drinking water with E. coli in Bidur, Nuwakot, is raising concerns about outbreaks of enteric diseases. Cases of diarrhea and fever have been reported in reception centers. The WHO has provided rapid tests for dengue, malaria, hay fever, influenza, and leptospirosis. Oral cholera vaccination and measles and rubella vaccination for children are being considered. The risk of vector-borne and zoonotic diseases could also increase.
