Cuba’s national power grid collapsed again on Monday as authorities attempted to restore service following a nationwide blackout Sunday night. This is the second collapse in less than a day, underscoring the fragility of Cuba’s electrical system and its connection to the country’s economic woes. Adverse weather conditions hampered the transmission network during restoration efforts, impacting generating units.
Progress had been reported in re-energizing substations in Havana and bringing generating units back online at Energas Jaruco. This incident follows multiple grid failures in July and a previous collapse Sunday night. The repeated blackouts affect homes, businesses, and public services, exacerbating the island’s economic and social crisis.
