Pakistan has reported 28,500 suspected measles cases, including 7,500 laboratory-confirmed cases and 96 related deaths in children so far this year.
Sindh is the worst-affected province with 53 deaths and over 2,000 infections. Children under five are the most affected demographic.
Transmission continues in all four provinces due to insufficient awareness campaigns and inadequate vaccination rates, with 30% of parents not having vaccinated their children.
Karachi, as a transportation hub, increases the risk of spread. Pakistan accounts for 65% of the measles burden in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Notable increases in cases have been observed in previous years, and the trajectory for 2026 is comparable to outbreak years.
