Massive influx of migrants in Ceuta overwhelms security forces

July 30, 2026

Thousands of migrants, including entire families, have crossed the Ceuta border on foot without opposition from Moroccan security forces, reaching Spanish territory.

The Civil Guard and the National Police have intervened to contain and manage the migrants. In less than two weeks, around 2,000 people have entered Ceuta, marking the highest level of migratory pressure since May 2021. The Temporary Immigrant Detention Center (CETI) is at capacity, housing 727 people out of an official capacity of 512. Approximately 500 unaccompanied foreign minors have arrived, along with 18 Moroccan women.

In less than 24 hours, four bodies were recovered on the Ceuta coastline, bringing the total number of deaths on the maritime route to Ceuta since the beginning of the year to 31. The Minister of the Interior will travel to the city.
