August 7, 2026

Luxembourg has experienced an increase in Lyme disease cases, rising from 12 in 2022 to 28 in 2025.

A study of 4,486 ticks at 41 locations in 2025 revealed that 16.7% were infected with Borrelia burgdorferi. Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) was not detected, with only one case reported in the past five years (acquired in Lithuania in 2023).

Authorities have intensified surveillance and prevention campaigns.
