Costa Rica has registered 2,591 cases of syphilis in the first 35 weeks of 2026, representing a 20.96% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The Ministry of Health warns of the need to strengthen detection, diagnosis, and treatment.

San José concentrates the largest number of notifications (1,057 cases), while Limón presents the highest incidence (91.1 per 100,000 inhabitants). The lowest rates are observed in Alajuela and Guanacaste.

The most affected population is between 20 and 34 years old, especially the 25 to 29-year-old group.
