Costa Rica has registered 772 cases of hepatitis A in 2026, more than double the cases from 2025 (373).
The province of San José accounts for 73% of the cases (562), with the spread linked to interruptions in the water supply and contamination detected in August.
The majority of those affected are adults aged 20 to 64 (601 cases). Hygiene and surveillance measures have been implemented.
