The Estonian Health Council reports an increase in cases of Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis, coinciding with the peak season for tick-borne illnesses.
More than 1,200 people have contracted Lyme disease and more than 50 have been diagnosed with tick-borne encephalitis in Estonia this year.
The most affected areas include Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, and Vormsi, as well as the west coast, due to bird migration routes. It is important to remember that there are no completely tick-free areas and caution is advised.
