As of August 28, 2026, Salta has registered 20 cases of hydatid disease so far this year (epidemiological week 32). Two new cases were added in the last week, one in the Capital department and the other in Rivadavia. 70% of the cases are concentrated in Rivadavia, Capital, and San Martín.
Additional cases have been reported in Cachi, Cafayate, La Poma, and Orán, as well as one case from another province. Hydatid disease, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is transmitted through dogs and can affect the liver and lungs, with a risk of severe reactions from ruptured cysts.
