Increase in Campylobacter cases in Sweden

June 23, 2026

An expected increase in Campylobacter cases has been observed in Sweden, similar to levels seen the previous year.

In late May and early June (week 23), 91 cases were reported, with Sweden listed as the country of infection or the country of origin unknown.

Common symptoms include acute diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever, with an incubation period of 1 to 3 days. The risk increases during the summer months due to the higher prevalence of Campylobacter in chickens, with improper handling or undercooked chicken being a common cause.
