The CDC and FDA have confirmed an outbreak of hepatitis A in four US states (Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania), linked to the consumption of frozen clams.

Thirty-seven cases have been reported, with 30 hospitalizations. The ages of those affected range from 6 to 40 years old. Symptom onset dates range between July 30, 2025, and June 23, 2026. 77% of interviewed patients consumed ceviche, 76% raw or undercooked shellfish, and 47% raw or undercooked black clams. Imported frozen clams are the likely source of the infection. No deaths have been reported.
