Food alert for Listeria monocytogenes in processed sausage in the Ñuble Region, Chile

June 9, 2026

The Regional Ministerial Secretariat (Seremi) of Health for the Ñuble Region of Chile has issued a regional food alert after detecting Listeria monocytogenes in “Arrollado huaso con ají Lámina 300gr” (a type of rolled meat product) from Cecinas Los Andes in Chillán.

The affected batch was produced on May 30, 2026, and the alert has been extended to all 21 municipalities in the region. The production and sale of cooked products from the factory has been prohibited. Authorities are investigating hygiene lapses. High-risk groups include pregnant women, the elderly, newborns, and immunocompromised individuals.

No human cases or deaths have been reported, but the alert warns of the risk of continued exposure and the possibility of undetected illnesses due to the bacteria’s incubation period. Chile has experienced recurring listeriosis outbreaks linked to meat products.
