August 5, 2026

The death of an 82-year-old man diagnosed with West Nile fever (WNF) in Dos Hermanas, Seville, has been confirmed.

The patient was hospitalized at the Virgen de Valme University Hospital.

A new mild case has been reported in Aznalcázar, bringing the total number of cases diagnosed this season to 17. Aznalcázar has been declared an alert area until August 24, with intensified mosquito surveillance and control measures. Currently, 19 Andalusian municipalities are on alert for WNV circulation, including towns in Jaén, Granada, Málaga, and Seville.

Viral circulation was detected in Benacazón and Bujalance, but alert areas were not declared because the capture points were more than 1.5 km from the town center.
