Chile has been validated by the WHO for eliminating dog-transmitted rabies as a public health problem, after more than 50 years without registering cases in humans. The last human case dates back to 1972. The achievements are due to timely vaccination of exposed individuals, canine vaccination campaigns, control of the dog population, and community education.
