Alert for tick and mosquito-borne diseases in Navarre

By Fundación iO Team

Public health experts are warning about the proliferation of mosquito- and tick-borne diseases in Navarre, especially during the summer. So far in 2016, 13 cases of Mediterranean spotted fever, 12 of Lyme disease, and one of tularemia have been reported, all due to tick bites. Additionally, 8 cases of dengue, 7 of chikungunya, and one of Zika have been confirmed in people who traveled to at-risk countries.

The presence of the Asian tiger mosquito has been detected in Navarre, which could facilitate local transmission of these diseases if it bites infected individuals.
